Our story
We met at the University of Washington's Creating a Company class in 2017 where we started our journey as co-founders and best friends. We like to say our team has two dreamers and a dream-killer. Kathy and Minnie are optimistic and energetic. Karin, on the other hand, is pragmatic and analytical. Together, we challenge each other and collaborate to accomplish more than we can as individuals.
Meet Our Team
KATHY TUAN, CEO
Gryffindor | ESTP | Team Ironman | Team Spurs
Kathy studied Medical Anthropology, Global Health, and Entrepreneurship at the University of Washington. She enjoys brainstorming with entrepreneurs with diverse backgrounds to solve problems, cooking a.k.a. eating, and traveling.
We all know where to find Kathy when she is not studying or brewing bottles of Mikki -- on the couch watching Netflix with her best friend, Lane (additional furry family members are on the way).
KARIN SOYAMA, COO + CREATIVE DIRECTOR
Karin was born in Tokyo, Japan and grew up in Kailua on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. She moved to Seattle in 2012 to study Marketing and Entrepreneurship at the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington. She takes pride in being in-the-know of cool new companies and appreciates good branding. Karin has 7+ years of experience in the restaurant & service industry.
When not spending time with the other Mikki gals, you can find her working at Single Shot, raising plants and two cats (Lulu & Samson) with her boyfriend Cody, taking barre classes, backpacking in the North Cascades, or attempting to snowboard at Crystal Mountain.
MINNIE YUAN, CHIEF DESIGN OFFICER
Minnie grew up in Taiwan, moved to California for high school, and became a Husky in Seattle. Double majoring in Communications and Interdisciplinary Visual Arts with a minor in Entrepreneurship from UW, Minnie enjoys the startup culture and loves to create visually appealing design solutions.
In her spare time, she likes to go on spontaneous adventures with friends, whether it be food or travels.
Partnerships & Press
We are a proud member of Seattle Made – a community with a mission to grow and support a diverse ecosystem of urban manufacturers and producers that expand opportunities for local ownership and meaningful employment, build our region’s long-term resiliency, and celebrate Seattle’s unique cultural identity.
All three founders are University of Washington alum. We met in a class called Creating a Company, a course offered through the Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship at the Foster School of Business. The Buerk Center has been an invaluable resource for us as we participated in the 2017 Business Plan Competition and a part of the 2017 cohort of the Jones + Foster Accelerator program.
On October 4th, 2018, we had the privilege of competing as one of the top 8 finalists for the Business Impact NW’s annual IMPACT Pitch. The organization empowers a diverse community of entrepreneurs, supporting the continuing growth of local small businesses through micro-enterprise. The event is a chance for businesses who have a positive impact on their community to pitch, network, and celebrate! We are the proud recipients of the 2018 Best Immigrant-Owned Business Mission Award.
